Economic recovery could activate Digital Twins

By Adam Beck | Executive Director, Smart Cities Council Australia New Zealand | Secretariat, Centre for Data Leadership | Administrator, ANZ Digital Twin Hub

Among the many reflections the Smart Cities Council (SCC) has made following months of intensive engagement with its company members and government, is that the ability for business and the community to participate in the digital economy is now more important than ever. For many, if not most, it was a matter of survival over recent months.

As Australia moves into the important phase of economic rebuild, government and industry must work together to identify the best possible opportunities for policy reform, new programs and directing economic stimulus.

In its recently released document "The Next Spend", the SCC identifies six recommendations for accelerating a digitally-enabled and data-driven economic recovery, including:

"Activating our Digital Twins – through a series of lighthouse projects, accelerate the full functionality of existing Digital Twins, helping accelerate e-planning, infrastructure development and investment attraction processes that speed up the pipeline of spend and enhance social, environmental and economic outcomes."
