The release of a ‘Connected Games Playbook’ setting our immediate recommendations for a South East Queensland hosted 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games is the blueprint the region needs to equip itself for fully participating in the digital economy, says the Smart Cities Council Australia New Zealand (SCCANZ).
The Smart Cities Council has released a document recommending three immediate steps in anticipation of an imminent announcement of Brisbane and South East Queensland hosting the 2032 Games.
“SCCANZ partnered with a number of its members across the public and private sector to prepare the first of a series of three documents that will provide guidance on achieving the vision set by the Task Force – “that the 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games will catalyse investment in technology and data in a way that accelerates the highest level of sustainability and prosperity for the people, environment and economy of Brisbane, South East Queensland and beyond”.
Executive Director of SCCANZ Adam Beck says, “positioning South East Queensland to deliver a 2032 Games 'digital dividend' is an opportunity all three tiers of government cannot afford to miss. To achieve this, we must plan, design and deliver a connected Games’.
Beck continued, saying that “recent experience with the COVID-19 pandemic has shown the importance of data in navigating an increasingly complex and disruptive world. We believe these Games are an opportunity to show leadership, and potentially being recognised forever as the first truly digitally-enabled and inclusive Games”.
The three recommendation Action Plan consists of:
SEQ DATA STRATEGY - Classifies data as infrastructure, guides all Games investment in infrastructure and services and facilitates coordinated data leadership for the region
PRE-GAMES BASELINE – Establishes a benchmark for success, enabling urban life, sustainability and prosperity to be measured and builds the foundations for new industries and trade and investment leadership
DATA ACTIVATION FOUNDATIONS – By building a region-wide Digital Twin, SEQ Data Exchange to power regional growth, investment and jobs and housing it all in an Integrated Intelligence Hub - the 'heads-up' display for the Games and beyond.
